Field-derived information was interpreted on site and used to make significant real-time decisions affecting the extent and location of field activities. Field Operation Manager decisions based upon real-time data resulted in a flexible remedial investigation that was completed on time and within budget.
The remedial investigation identified and delineated the extent of soil and water contamination, and resulted in the excavation and proper disposal of nearly 600 drums of buried waste. Ultimately, the remedial investigation at the site concluded with an approved and implemented Record of Decision. |

Project Description |
|
The 113-acre Revere Chemical facility was an acid, metal, and plating waste processing operation. Wastes containing chromic acid, copper sulfate, and other heavy metals, as well as sulfuric acid and ammonia, were stored on site in unlined earthen lagoons causing contamination of soils, ground water, and a tributary of Rapp Creek. Abandoned full and empty drums, storage tanks, processing facilities, and piles of hazardous waste were also present at the facility.
Soils and water on the site were known to be contaminated with benzoic acid, heavy metals, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), solvents, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and byproducts of petroleum. Potential health threats included accidental ingestion, dermal contact with contaminated soils, and inhalation of dust from contaminated soils. A remedial investigation was designed and implemented to characterize contaminated media and determine remedial options.
Field operations management of the remedial investigation included the direction of multiple complex investigative techniques which included: |
